TV Special Examines Self-Injury Among Teens on August 1

“The Enemy Within” is latest in Emmy-award-winning Connect with Kids series

More and more U.S. teens are experimenting with self-injury as a way to deal with stress and emotional pain. Cutting, burning, scratching. Research shows that there has been a surge in self-injury—and that almost 20 percent of teens have seriously considered suicide, and more than 8 percent will attempt it.

As part of the Emmy-award-winning Connect with Kids series, ABC-13/KTRK-TV will be airing a special presentation of “The Enemy Within” on Sunday, August 1, at noon.

The show features real kids, true stories, experts, and educators as a way to help parents and kids start a conversation about the tough challenges children face every day.

Watch “The Enemy Within” to learn why teens turn to self-destructive behavior and what parents need to know to recognize the warning signs of depression, anxiety and cutting.
